The 125th anniversary logo was created to help fix the attention
of the university community and the public on the university's
year-long celebration. It will be seen on everything from street
banners and event posters to invitations and commemorative
products. The design elements include the founding date and anniversary year, the signature of university founder Johns Hopkins and the slogan chosen for the anniversary commemoration: Knowledge. For the World. The logo's composition is a reference to Johns Hopkins' past, present and future, right down to the fonts used Bodini, a 19thcentury typeface (the slogan); the more contemporary Bernhard Modern (the dates). The point of the design is that Johns Hopkins University's present and future are built upon the past. Johns Hopkins' signature harkens back to his vision in creating what was a pioneering institution. The slogan refers to what the university's faculty and students have accomplished with what Hopkins bequeathed them: built an institution that creates and disseminate knowledge for the purpose of making the world a better place.
